This is just a page to talk to you about one of the treatments I went for at a Medical facility.
What Is Mirror Therapy?
Mirror therapy is exactly what it sounds like: a therapy that uses a mirror. It was first used to help people with phantom limb pain, but now it’s also used for CRPS. The idea is surprisingly simple. A mirror is placed between the arms or legs so that when the person moves their healthy limb, it looks like the affected limb is moving normally too. The brain sees the reflection and gets tricked into believing that the painful limb is functioning without pain.
Why Does It Work?
CRPS isn’t just about physical injury, it’s also about how the brain nerve processes pain signals. Sometimes the brain gets stuck in a loop, sending pain signals even when there’s no danger. Mirror therapy helps interrupt that loop – I am not sure how that really works but I tried it in few sessions. When the brain sees the healthy limb moving, it starts to reorganize itself. This basically means if it works, the brain can change and adapt.
For people with CRPS, this can be huge. It can help reduce pain, improve movement, and even decrease swelling. It doesn’t work instantly, and it doesn’t work the same for everyone, but few people report real improvements.
Final Thoughts
As someone who loves learning about science and health, mirror therapy shows how creative solutions can make a real difference. It’s not magic, but it’s a smart way of using the brain’s own abilities to help heal the body. And for people living with CRPS, that can mean getting back even a small part of their normal life.
